An ode and tribute to the composer Hans Tammen, I digitized his visual scoring methods and arranged them according to an algorithm that will make Hans be able to compose as a piece of software indefinitely. Here, the ICE and EM KVLT are but the players performing according to the instructions given to us by Auto Hans.
The Secret Pope
The Secret Pope is an ode to Pope Joan, the mythical female pope of the 12th century. Women were and have been notoriously excluded from the Christian power and political structure and in fact have been pitted in opposition to it as witches. This performance is not only an ode to the mythical power of women, their relationship to mainstream spirituality, but also a tongue in cheek exploration of what else popes might do in the woods.
Elk + Hunter
Shadow puppet spoken word laser show. The story is an elaboration on the Hades and Persephone myth, taken through a more slavic interpretation and exploring Persephone’s reasons for returning to Hades 9 months a year, implying that it is perhaps she who steers the ship that is the netherworld.
Mother Earth, Father Sky
A reconfiguration of the Earth Mother/Sky Father tale from a pan slavic perspective. A story I read at Neue Kirche in Pittsburgh, as part of a show called Space Art, curated by Dan Wilcox and Anika Hirt. The show included a history of art made for outer space, it’s construction, and perception in the technical world of rockets and space exploration. It was a accompanied by an exhibition and a series of performances, including this one.
Parrots
Performed at Flux Factory with Eric Barry Drasin. My speech is being transliterated and processed. The letters that make up the transliteration triggered the bird sounds you hear in the background.
